"Will a hotel room really work for eight nights?"

"Can I cook anything after a twelve-hour session day?"

"Do I have to hand over a Korean-size deposit just to stay three weeks?"

If you are flying into Busan (๋ถ€์‚ฐ) for a congress, a trade fair or an academic conference at BEXCO (๋ฒก์Šค์ฝ”), the trip is rarely only the conference. There are pre-meetings, a lab or factory visit, a colleague who travelled with you, and a weekend nobody wants to waste at an airport hotel.

That shape of trip, roughly six nights to a month, lands exactly where hotels turn expensive and a normal Korean lease refuses to start.

Does this sound like you?

โœ“ Your conference at BEXCO runs four days, but flight prices make the trip eight nights

โœ“ You are presenting and want a desk and quiet, not a lobby full of rolling suitcases

โœ“ A colleague or a family member came along, and a twin hotel room is already tight

โœ“ You would like one meal a day that is not a convention centre lunch box

โœ“ Your institution reimburses a fixed nightly cap that Busan hotels pass in high season

โœ“ You want laundry done before the flight home, without a per-item hotel price list

โœ“ You are staying on afterwards for lab visits, site tours or a few days by the sea

โœ“ You are not about to sign a one-year Korean lease for a three-week stay

If four or more of those lines are yours, the booking problem is not the city. It is the length of the trip.

Why a conference week in Busan is awkward to book

Busan hosts BEXCO events almost every month, and the hotels around Centum City (์„ผํ…€์‹œํ‹ฐ) know it. The nights on either side of a big exhibition are the nights that get repriced.

โ‘  The dates never match the programme.

Conferences run four to five days, but flights, jet lag and a site visit stretch the trip to eight or ten nights. Hotels quote each night separately, so every extra day lands at the peak rate rather than a longer-stay rate.

โ‘ก A standard Korean lease will not take you.

A conventional monthly rental expects a deposit in the millions of won, a Korean guarantor or bank account, and a lease of a year or two. None of that is realistic for a visitor with a three-week itinerary and a conference badge.

โ‘ข Hotel living stops working around night four.

The first three nights feel fine. By the fourth you have eaten every restaurant near the venue, your laundry is in a bag, and there is nowhere to sit and rewrite your slides except the edge of the bed.

A hotel is the right answer for three nights, and the wrong one for ten.

Hotel, serviced residence or short-term rental: the 6-night math

In Korea a week of accommodation is normally priced as 6 nights, and that is how a short-term rental is quoted too. Comparing the same 6 nights side by side makes the gap easy to see.

The deposit is where visitors are most often surprised. A Liveanywhere deposit is usually around KRW 300,000 (approx. USD 222) rather than the multi-million-won jeonse or wolse deposits that Korean leases ask for, and the contract is signed electronically, which matters when you are still abroad.

Add the food line as well. Six nights of eating out for two people near a convention centre runs well past KRW 400,000, and a kitchen removes most of that.

Getting to BEXCO and Centum City from Mangmi-dong

Mangmi-dong (๋ง๋ฏธ๋™) sits in Suyeong-gu (์ˆ˜์˜๊ตฌ), one river bend inland from the exhibition district, and that is the reason the rates are calmer than the ones quoted on the Centum City side.

The walk to BEXCO, the Busan Cinema Center (์˜ํ™”์˜์ „๋‹น) and the Shinsegae department store follows the Suyeong River (์ˆ˜์˜๊ฐ•) path and takes about 26 minutes, or roughly 6 minutes by car or taxi. Mangmi Station (๋ง๋ฏธ์—ญ) is a 12-minute walk and Millak Station (๋ฏผ๋ฝ์—ญ) about 17 minutes, so you are not dependent on one line.

Gwangalli (๊ด‘์•ˆ๋ฆฌ) and Haeundae (ํ•ด์šด๋Œ€) are around 10 minutes away by car, which is what turns the two days after a conference into an actual trip.

For daily life the neighbourhood does the quiet work. F1963, a former wire factory rebuilt as a library, gallery and cafรฉ complex, is a 5-minute walk, a Costco is 10 minutes on foot, and Paldo Market (ํŒ”๋„์‹œ์žฅ) sits between the flat and the subway.

๐ŸŒฟ Fully remodelled, with a washing machine, a dryer, a water purifier, a dehumidifier and a steam iron already in the flat.

๐ŸŒฟ A 120-inch projector in the living room, which is more useful than it sounds the night before you present.

๐ŸŒฟ A designated free parking space, on a quiet residential street a few minutes from a main road and two convenience stores.

Two separate rooms is the detail that matters for work travel. A colleague, a partner or a child gets a door, and the person rehearsing a talk at midnight is not keeping anyone awake.

An overseas guest wrote, in English, that the flat was clean and well kept, that the host answered every question, and that public transport, restaurants and convenience stores were all close enough to make exploring Busan easy. They said they would book the same place on their next trip.

Finding a short-term rental in Busan on Liveanywhere

Liveanywhere lists furnished homes that can be booked from one week upwards, which is the unit conference travel actually runs in.

The practical points for a visitor are simple. Contracts are signed electronically and remotely, deposits average around KRW 300,000 (approx. USD 222), utilities are included in the quoted price, and almost every listing is fully furnished with a kitchen, a washing machine and a fridge.

Book the conference nights first and extend afterwards if the trip grows. Adjusting the length is normal here, not a penalty.

A conference is four days. The trip around it is the part worth housing properly.
